I don’t like when they disappear with cards but seems standard in NYC. We then split the bill 4 ways between us all and the server was back and forth with our cards and saying not all of them worked. But the other 8 dishes ordered were a let down. Like I say the sea bass satay was the best. The whole table felt the same, wasn’t much taste and wasn’t a wow factor. But the food here was more like take away Chinese. I have eaten in many high end pan Asian restaurants, they are my fave. When the food and drinks did come, the wrong drinks came. We then had a server who forgot what we ordered and had to come back to the table, 20 mins later. When we were seated and we made it clear we weren’t happy they offered to pay for our first round of drinks which I think is the least they could have done. We were told table wasn’t ready, fine to wait 10/20 mins but 1.5 hours seems a bit much! But there is nothing else I can say positive about this place. Aesthetically the place is lovely and the music is great, and the monk fish satay starter is good. MoreĬame here for an evening of food and drinks with friends. TAO is the worst place we have ever been to. We have been traveling many places around the world and eaten in so many restaurants. So to avoid the police or other implication, we paid $ 420 in total with the advanced deposit to have the worst restaurant experience in our life. We were in total shock! We offered to pay for the drinks and starter, but that was not accepted. When we got up to leave the restaurant without having eaten our main course, a security man came and threatened us to call the police if we didn’t pay our bill. First I heard that he said we could just leave and didn’t have to pay and apologized for the noise. Meanwhile waiting for him they served us our main course. The kids & noise just went on and no one tried to ask the kids to calm down. Then we asked to see the manager, but after waiting for about 20 minutes we asked another waiter if we could speak to the Manager. But all she said was” what can I do?” And she did nothing. At this stage we couldn’t hear anything else than the shouting, so we asked our waiter to talk to the few adults with the kids to calm them down. Then the kids started shouting to each other and running to and from the table. A huge number of kids, maybe 25-30 and I would guess they were 10-13 years old. While we had out starters, a big table next to us started to fill up with kids. It was very cold in the restaurant, so we asked if it was possible to turn down the air conditioner and they did. We got our drinks and starters, so far so good. After ordering our drinks and food, we noticed that it was many waiters standing on the side just waiting. well and seated in a round table just near the waiter area. We asked for a quiet as possible table in our reservation. It was a special occasion for us to be in NYC together. The four of us made a reservation for Friday 4th of November for 6 PM many weeks in advance.
